Yokohama Marinos vs Kawasaki Frontale 05/09/20
05 September 2020
Yokohama Marinos and Kawasaki Frontale will face off against each other at the Nissan Stadium in a potentially high-scoring J1 League affair. Both of their previous league H2Hs have featured over 3.5 goals and both sides hitting the net.
Yokohama battled their way through to the YBV Levain Cup semi-finals, dumping Sapporo of the quarter-finals after successfully negotiating a penalty shoot-out. The hosts have been a pretty exciting team to watch lately, as all four of their previous top-flight matches have seen over 3.5 goals and both sides on the scoresheet (W3, D1). Curiously, each of those four fixtures has seen the host on the day win the second half via the identical 2-1 scoreline. Also, the ‘Marinos’ have racked up a four-game unbeaten home J1 League streak gearing up for this encounter (W3, D1), netting over 2.5 goals in each of those successes. Particularly dangerous in the second half of play, Angelos Postecoglou’s men have bagged 70.59% (12) of the 17 goals scored at home after the half-time break.
Meanwhile, the visitors head into this clash on the back of a 6-0 dismantling of Vissel Kobe that has seen Kawasaki reach the YBC Levain Cup semi-finals. But, Toru Oniki’s men have endured mixed fortunes in their last three J1 League trips (W1, D1, L1), two of which have seen over 3.5 goals and both sides on the scoresheet. Regardless, free-scoring Kawasaki are the only team in the Japanese top-flight to smash a 20-goal barrier on the road, having netted 21 goals away from home on an average of 3 goals scored per J1 League trip. The majority (66.67%) of those goals arrived after the half-time break. Additionally, Kawasaki have broken the deadlock in five of seven league trips this term, going on to win four such matches (D1).
