Wolverhampton Wanderes vs Leicester City 15/02/20

15 February 2020

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City will both hope to overcome their respective crises when they face off at the Molineux Stadium this week.

It’s been a dismal start to the new calendar year for the home side, as they’ve secured just one win in five Premier League (PL) outings in 2020 (D2, L2). Yet, four of those fixtures have seen both teams on the scoresheet, with three producing over 2.5 goals. In turn, Wolves have won only once in their previous four league home matches (D1, L2), with each of those games witnessing both sides score and ending separating the sides by under 1.5 goals. The Wanderers’ home action usually sparks into life after the break, as 78% (14) of their 18 goals scored came in the second half. As a consequence, they’ve opened the scoring in just three of 12 PL home matches (25%), which make them the slowest home starters in England’s top tier.

In the meantime, the visitors have won two of five top-flight games since the turn of the year (D1, L2), with each of those fixtures featuring over 2.5 goals. Interestingly, 11 of the 17 goals (scored/conceded) across those five matches have come in the second half (64.71%), with each of those games yielding at least one goal beyond the hour mark. Importantly, none of Leicester’s last 11 PL away matches has ended in a draw (W7, L4), with six of those results (win/loss) in that period producing a margin of two goals or more. But, the Foxes do not enjoy traveling to Wolverhampton, given that they’ve pulled off just one win in ten competitive trips to the Molineux in the 21st century (D5, L4).
