Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Pyunik 16/08/19

16 August 2019

Pyunik travel to Molineux this midweek to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the return leg of their Europa League Qualifiers tie facing a virtually impossible task of overturning a 4-0 defeat from the reversed fixture.

Wolves have already dumped Crusaders out of the Europa League Qualifiers, 6-1 on aggregate before clinching a commanding 4-0 away win over Pyunik in the first leg. The Premier League giants go into this meeting off the back of a goalless away draw with Leicester City, which was the fifth time in their last six outings that they’ve prevented their opponents from scoring. Also, the Wanderers have racked up a 12-game home unbeaten run across all competitions ahead of this clash (W10, D2). Although just four of those triumphs have been accompanied by a clean sheet, nine have seen Wolves score 2+ match goals.

As for the visitors, they’ve managed to bring a three-game winless streak to a halt (D1, L2) with a 3-0 away win over domestic rivals Urartu in the build-up to this clash. Interestingly, none of their last four games has seen both teams score, with three of them seeing Pyunik fail to find the back of the net. However, last season’s Armenian Premier League runners-up are unbeaten in all 11 of their previous away games across all competitions (W8, D3). Aleksandr Tarkhanov’s men have restricted their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match in ten of those games, netting over 1.5 match goals eight times in the process.
