Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United 03/04/19
3 April 2019
Rocked by Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Manchester United to the Molineux Stadium hoping to replicate the same success from mid-March when they’ve dumped the Red Devils out from the FA Cup.
The hosts are not enjoying the best of times having failed to pick up all three points in five of six of their previous Premier League fixtures (W1, D3, L2). Although they have been struggling for form recently, Wolves are unbeaten in all four of their last PL home outings (W3, D1) having bagged 2+ match goals in all three triumphs during the run. The Wanderers have endured mixed fortunes facing the top-six PL sides at home this season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have secured three victories in six H2H home meetings with the English elite clubs across all competitions (W3, D1, L2) although just one of those wins have come in the Premier League (two in the FA Cup).
Meanwhile, a frustrating 2-0 road loss to Arsenal on the eve of the international break has compromised the visitors’ chances of securing the Champions League promotion. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men bounce back after a poor performance, clinching a 2-1 home win over Watford last weekend. A defeat to the Gunners has brought United’s six-game PL road winning run to an end, and it was also the only away fixture in which Man Utd failed to find the net since Solskjaer’s arrival. What’s more, the Red Devils have gone from nine straight road wins across all competitions to two consecutive losses, with United allowing 2+ match goals in both failures while restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match in each success.
