Wolfsburg vs Fenerbahce 23/07/19

23 July 2019

Fenerbahce and Wolfsburg will face-off at Franz Fekete Stadium in a friendly meeting that will see the two sides facing each other for the first time in the 21st century.

Fenerbahce’s sudden rise has seen them go from four straight games without a win (D3, L1) to six consecutive victories. Two of those wins have come in the summer friendlies against the domestic rivals, with both of them ending with the same 2-0 scoreline. Also, five of the Yellow Canaries’ last six triumphs have seen them score two or more goals, while Ersun Yanal’s men restricted their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match each time. The Turkish giants are enjoying a free-scoring form, having scored at least one goal in 17 of 18 outings since February. Still, their defensive frailties can come costly here, as Fenerbahce struggled to keep a clean sheet 13 times across the same period.

On the other hand, the Wolves are unbeaten in their last six outings (W4, D2), with five of those matches producing over 2.5 goals and seeing both teams score. Just like their rivals, Wolfsburg have been impressive in the final third recently, having scored 2+ match goals in eight of their previous nine games. Interestingly, eight of them matches have featured goals in both halves, with Wolfsburg finding the net before the halftime whistle seven times in the process. But, Bruno Labbadia has to worry about the fact that his men have struggled to keep a clean sheet in 14 of their last 16 matches.
