Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund 23/05/20

23 May 2020

Fresh from a 2-1 away win over Augsburg, Wolfsburg will welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Volkswagen Arena, looking to put an end to their disastrous nine-game winless run in the Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs (D1, L8).

Last weekend’s success in Augsburg now means that the hosts are unbeaten in seven consecutive league matches (W4, D3), and they’ll need to maintain that kind of form to keep their hopes of securing European football alive. But, Wolfsburg’s indifferent BL home form (W4, D6, L3) could be a problem here, especially considering they’ve picked up just one win in their last five league games held at this venue (D3, L1). In order to avoid defeat, the Wolves will have to open the scoring, as they failed to win a single of six BL home matches so far in which they’ve shipped the opening goal (D4, L2).

Meanwhile, a 4-0 dismantling of Schalke last time out has not only extended Dortmund’s winning league run to five games but has also helped them remain four points below table-toppers Bayern Munich. Additionally, four of those five above-mentioned victories have seen ‘Die Borussen’ keep a blank sheet, with three of them yielding a multiple-goal margin. But, away from home, Lucien Favre’s men have endured mixed fortunes in their last five league fixtures (W3, L2), with four of those matches seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.
