Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich 27/06/20
27 June 2020
Wolfsburg’s hopes of landing the Europa League qualification for the next season face a formidable challenge of a Bayern Munich side they’ve managed to beat only once in their last ten Bundesliga H2Hs held at the Volkswagen Arena (D1, L8).
The hosts have been struggling for form and consistency since the Bundesliga’s restart (W4, D1, L3), although they’ve been an exciting team to watch. In fact, six of Wolfsburg’s eight league fixtures in the post-pandemic period produced over 2.5 goals, with five seeing both sides on the scoresheet, too. ‘Die Wölfe’ desperately need to clinch three points here, but it will be a daunting prospect for Oliver Glasner’s side to do that, considering that they’ve failed to pick up a win in four consecutive league home games ahead of this clash (D2, L2). Additionally, they have also lost all four of their previous Bundesliga home H2Hs, conceding over 1.5 goals in each of those encounters.
Meanwhile, fresh from sealing a record-breaking eight successive league title, the visitors are confident of stretching their Bundesliga winning streak away from home to ten games. Impressively, seven of Bayern’s nine road triumphs during the abovementioned run produced a margin of at least two goals. Furthermore, Hansi Flick’s side’s tendency to win with dignity away from home has seen nine of their 12 Bundesliga road triumphs this season have yielded a multiple-goal margin. Indeed, the ‘Bavarians’ have based their away success on a lethal attack that has netted a league-high 43 goals on the road, 58.14% of which have come before the halftime break (25).
