West Ham United vs Tottenham Hotspur 23/11/19

23 November 2019

Saturday’s Premier League (PL) action gets underway at the Olympic Stadium, as West Ham United face an out-of-sorts Tottenham Hotspur side.

Winless in their last six league outings (D2, L4), the hosts hover just five points above the relegation zone, having won only three of their opening 12 PL matches (25%). Still, two of those wins have come on home turf and saw the Hammers beat their rivals via the same 2-0 scoreline. However, the Irons have lost two of their previous three PL home games (D1, L2), with all of those matches seeing both teams score. It will be a daunting prospect for West Ham to snap their unbeaten PL home run here, given that they’ve lost both of their previous league H2Hs with Tottenham at this venue via a single-goal margin. Interestingly, four of their last five PL H2Hs here have ended with the identical 1-0 scoreline, with West Ham coming off better twice across those clashes (W2, L3).

On the other hand, the visitors’ dismal five-game PL winless streak (D3, L2) has seen Jose Mourinho taking over the reins after Mauricio Pochettino’s dismissal. The Portuguese manager will try to lead his new side to their elusive first PL away victory this term (D3, L3) and help their break into the upper half of the table. Spurs have not only failed to keep a clean sheet away from home this season, but they’ve also allowed over 1.5 match goals in five consecutive PL road trips before playing out a 1-1 draw with Everton. Curiously, three of Tottenham’s last four PL matches have ended with a 1-1 scoreline, with a 2-1 away defeat to Liverpool being the only exception.
