West Ham United vs Liverpool 30/01/20
30 January 2020
Liverpool head to the Olympic Stadium to take on out-of-sorts West Ham United looking to post their seventh consecutive Premier League (PL) away triumph.
Winless in their last four competitive outings (D1, L3), the hosts come into this meeting on the back of a dismal 1-0 home loss to the Championship side WBA. For West Ham, it will be essential to keep a clean sheet to improve their chances of ending a six-game winless run against Liverpool (D2, L4). Indeed, all seven of the Irons’ last competitive victories have seen them shut out their opponents, with four of them coming via the identical 2-0 score. However, David Moyes’ men have not only failed to keep a blank sheet in eight of their past nine home fixtures, but they’ve shipped over 1.5 goals on five of those occasions. During the same nine-game sequence, the Hammers have struggled to find the net only once, scoring over 2+ goals three times.
Meanwhile, the visitors have won eight of their last nine competitive outings (in 90 minutes), with seven of their successes in that period being accompanied by a clean sheet. Additionally, the Reds have pulled off eight victories in their previous nine road trips, with the sole exception of a 5-0 hammering to Aston Villa that saw Jurgen Klopp field youngsters. Notably, the Merseyside giants have opened the scoring in seven of those triumphs, subsequently adding at least one more in six. Also, the reigning Champions League holders have shipped just six PL away goals, as they remain the only side that has yet to concede over 1.5 goals per PL road fixture. But, Liverpool have endured mixed fortunes in their last six competitive trips to West Ham (W2, D2, L2), with three of those H2H clashes producing over 2.5 goals.
