Werder Bremen vs Stuttgart 23/02/19
23 February 2019
Werder Bremen and Stuttgart will face-off at the Weserstadion in quite contrasting circumstances. While the hosts look to stretch a five-game unbeaten Bundesliga run (W2, D3), the visitors are desperate to break a disastrous seven-game winless streak (D1, L6).
A lack of consistency followed by a lot of ups and downs has seen Die Werderaner winning and losing in sequences. Florian Kohfeldt’s men have gone from three consecutive BL home defeats to four successive games without a loss (W2, D2) as they now hope to post back-to-back league home wins for the second time this term. Thanks to a stunning 4-0 victory over Augsburg, Die Grün-Weißen have managed to end a poor run of six BL home clashes in which they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet. However, they are the only team in the German top flight, along with Borussia Dortmund, that has scored in all of 11 BL home outings. What’s more, Werder have scored 2+ match goals in three of their last four games at the Weserstadion although they’ve conceded at least goal three times in the process.
On the other hand, Stuttgart’s nightmarish streak currently sees them sitting three points adrift of Bundesliga safety. Faced with a terrible crisis, the Swabians have entered this fixture carrying a five-game BL road losing run during which they’ve conceded 14 goals while scoring barely one in the process. No German team has suffered more defeats on the road than Stuttgart (9) this campaign, while only one side scored fewer goals away from home than Markus Weinzierl’s players (7). Having struggled to preserve a clean slate in 19 of 22 Bundesliga outings, the Reds (50) hold the worst defensive record in the German top tier.
