Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich 17/06/20
17 June 2020
Relegation-threatened Werder Bremen welcome runaway Bundesliga (BL) leaders Bayern Munich to the Weserstadion this midweek, hoping to put an end to a miserable 18-game losing streak in their top-flight H2Hs.
Although the hosts managed to pick up three wins in six league matches in the post-pandemic period (D1, L2), they’ve not been a particularly entertaining team to watch. Indeed, four of those six fixtures have featured under 1.5 goals, with three of them yielding the identical 0-0 halftime scoreline. However, ‘Die Werderaner’ have yet to secure the BL home triumph in 2020, suffering six defeats in seven league home outings since the turn of the year (D1). Frustratingly for Florian Kohfeldt, his players have drawn a blank on six of those occasions, with the vast majority (13) of the 15 goals they’ve shipped across those matches coming in the second half of play (86.67%).
As for the visitors, they’ve continued to demonstrate their dominance of German football, beating Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 at home last time out to bring their winning league run to 17 straight games. What’s more, the reigning BL champions have won each of their last eight league away matches, netting over 2.5 goals in six while keeping a blank sheet in four. Hansi Flick’s men are likely to maintain that form here, as they take on a side they’ve beaten in each of their ten previous top-flight away H2H meetings. Lapses in concentration after the break could be the only reason for Bayern to be wary of ahead of this trip, given that 65% (11) of their 17 BL away goals conceded against so far came in the second half of play.
