Werder Bremen vs Augsburg 10/02/19
10 February 2019
Werder Bremen and Augsburg face-off at the Weserstadion as the hosts hope to post their third straight Bundesliga win over the struggling visitors.
Currently sitting tenth in the table, Weder’s top-flight survival is not jeopardy, but a poor haul of just one victory in their last six Bundesliga clashes (W1, D3, L2) is pushing them away from the European promotion zone. Die Werderaner’s indifferent road form (W3, D4, L3) certainly troubles Florian Kohfeldt, especially the fact his players pulled off only one triumph in their previous six BL home outings (W1, D2, L3). The principal reason for Die Grün-Weißen’s bad results in the recent period relates to weak defensive displays that have seen them allowing over 1.5 goals per match in four of their last six home meetings. Moreover, Werder have failed to keep a clean slate in 9 of 10 BL home games, as they currently hold the second-worst defensive home record in the German top tier having conceded 18 goals so far.
Meanwhile, last weekend’s 3-0 home win over Mainz 05 has brought Augsburg’s disastrous ten-game Bundesliga winless streak to an end (D3, L7) but the visitors still fear for their elite status. However, Manuel Baum’s players come into this encounter after another success that has seen them dumping Holstein Kiel out of DFB Pokal during midweek. A positive sign for the Fuggerstädter is that they’ve managed two clean sheets in a sequence of five days after failing to preserve a clean slate in 12 successive games across all competitions. Still, Baum has to figure it out how to collect points away from home, considering his side secured barely one point on their last five BL road trips (D1, L4), failing to hit the net three times in the process.
