Watford vs Tottenham Hotspur 05/09/20

05 September 2020

Vicarage Road is the venue as Watford and Tottenham Hotspur go head to head in a pre-season friendly. It will be a daunting prospect for the home side to win here given they’ve failed to beat their visitors in all four of their previous H2H meetings (D3, L1).

Watford suffered relegation from the Premier League after losing all three of their final top-flight fixtures last term, having conceded over 2.5 goals in each. Despite losing five of their previous seven matches (W2), the Hornets have been an exciting team to watch. Each of those clashes has contained over 2.5 goals, with five seeing both teams on the scoresheet. In turn, Vicarage Road has been a venue of entertainment this calendar year, as eight of Watford’s ten games here have produced three goals or more, with seven seeing both sides hit the net. A similar scenario could take place here, given three of their previous five H2Hs held at this stadium have featured over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring.

As for Tottenham, they have won all three of their pre-season friendlies so far, two of which via a precise three-goal margin. Quick out of the blocks, Spurs have netted six of the eight goals scored across those matches before the half-time whistle. However, away from home, Jose Mourinho’s men have won just once in their previous seven outings (D3, L3). That’s mainly thanks to a genuine lack of goals that has seen Tottenham score under 1.5 goals in six of those seven games. Notably, they’ve failed to get on the scoresheet in the first half of five of those occasions.
