Vancouver Whitecaps vs Toronto FC 06/09/20
06 September 2020
The Canadian rivals are set to lock horns at BC Place this weekend as Vancouver Whitecaps welcome Toronto FC for a massive MLS encounter.
Nailed to the bottom of the Western Conference after the opening eight rounds of the MLS fixtures, the hosts remain the only side in the west yet to play out a draw (W2, L6). Notably, six of those eight results (wins/losses) have seen the winner on the day keep a clean sheet, with five yielding a full-time margin of at least two goals. Despite losing both of their opening MLS home matches, BC Place has been a venue of entertainment, as each of those matches witnessed over 3.5 goals and both teams hit the net in the first half of play. Another high-scoring affair is on the cards, given that four of their last six competitive H2H clashes have featured over 2.5 goals.
Meanwhile, the visitors sit second in the Eastern Conference ahead of the kick-off despite succumbing to a 1-0 home loss to Monteral Impact last time out. Although that defeat brought Toronto’s three-game winning MLS run to a halt, it followed the ‘clean-sheet’ script. Indeed, five of their six top-flight results this season have now seen the winner on the day shut out the loser, with the last three all yielding the identical 1-0 scoreline. Curiously, the ‘Reds’ tend to produce a lot of action ten minutes before or after the break, with four of their seven league goals scored on the road coming in that timeframe.
