AS Monaco vs Valencia 20/07/19

20 July 2019

Valencia start their preparations at the Stade du Christ-Roi, as they take on AS Monaco in a friendly meeting. The French side will have revenge on their minds after the Bats dumped them out of the Champions League playoffs in 2015.

Valencia will kick off their pre-season, as it will be their first match since a stunning 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. With no stalemate in their last 15 outings (W10, L5), and ten of those games producing over 2.5 goals, the Bats’ audacious approach can guarantee a lot of entertainment here. Notably, five of Valencia’s previous six matches have featured over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score, with Marcelino Garcia Toral’s men netting 2+ match goals on five occasions along the way. A potential worry for the Oranges could be that they’ve struggled to preserve a blank sheet in eight of their last nine outings, allowing over 1.5 goals per match four times though.

On the other hand, unable to bounce back after a disastrous 2018-19 campaign, the struggling French giants have suffered three consecutive defeats in their pre-season so far, conceding eight goals while scoring just one across those matches. Monaco’s run of poor form has seen them pick up just three wins in their last 16 outings (W3, D5, L8), with five of those losses seeing them fail to find the back of the net. Moreover, Monaco’s inability to keep a clean sheet has seen them concede at least one goal in nine of their last ten matches.
