Uruguay vs Ecuador 17/06/19

17 June 2019

Uruguay and Ecuador will begin their Copa America campaign at the Mineirão in Belo Horizonte as the two nations go head-to-head for the opening match of Group C.

The Uruguayans have endured a challenging period following the World Cup exit, having suffered four straight defeats following a stunning 4-1 win over Mexico in their first post-World Cup friendly. However, La Celeste’s sudden rise has seen them rack up three consecutive triumphs in the build-up to the tournament. Notably, all three of those wins have seen them score three or more goals, with Óscar Tabárez’s men keeping a clean sheet in each. Uruguay’s strong start to the game has seen them score four of their last ten goals inside the opening 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, La Tricolor’s struggling over the past few months could be a major influence here, as Ecuador failed to pick up a victory in all four of their outings in 2019 (D2, L2). Furthermore, Hernán Darío Gómez’s players have scored one goal or less in three of those games, although they’ve restricted their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match on three occasions too. Still, Los Amarillos have plenty to hope for here, considering they’ve won two of their last three H2H meetings with Uruguay (W2, L1), with all three of those clashes being settled by a narrow one-goal margin.
