United States vs Chile 27/03/19

27 March 2019

The United States take on Chile in an international friendly challenge that takes place at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas.

USMNT have improved a lot since Gregg Berhalter took charge, racking up a three-game winning run in the build-up to this meeting. The Stars and Stripes have gone from four winless games (D1, L3) to three consecutive triumphs in which they didn’t concede a single goal while scoring six in the process. The Yanks have experienced mixed fortunes against the South American teams in five H2Hs over the past 12 months (W3, D2), with three of those matches producing over 2.5 goals. However, barely three of the USA’s last ten home clashes have seen more than two goals per match, with just two providing goals on both ends.

Meanwhile, the visitors are still struggling for consistency as they come into this meeting off the back of a 3-1 loss to Mexico. Saturday’s loss was Chile’s third in their last five outings (W2, L3) with La Roja allowing exactly three goals per match in each failure. Another potential worry for Reinaldo Rueda is that his players have clinched just one victory in five of their previous road games (W1, D2, L2), scoring one goal or less four times across those matches. Moreover, Chile’s difficulties in the final third have seen them score over 1.5 goals per match on just three of their last ten road trips, failing to hit the net four times in the process.
