Union Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund 01/09/19
1 September 2019
Saturday’s Bundesliga (BL) action ends at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei where the newly-promoted Union Berlin host the last season’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund.
The hosts are still looking for their elusive first BL win in the club’s history having struggled to secure all three points in the opening two league fixtures this term (D1, L1). Although Die Eisernen go into this encounter off the back of a 1-1 away draw with Augsburg, they have been edged out 4-0 by RB Leipzig in their first-ever BL home game. However, Union Berlin’s impressive home form last season can only encourage the home fans, as Urs Fischer’s men picked up 11 wins in 17 home games last term, suffering just one defeat along the way – the best record in the 2. Bundesliga last year. Ten of those 11 home league wins were by a multiple-goal margin while six of them saw Union Berlin beat their rivals to nil.
On the other hand, the visitors have enjoyed a great start to the new BL season, putting together two wins, both of which have seen them score three or more goals and concede precisely one. Having already swept aside one of the newly-promoted clubs (3-1 away win over Cologne), BVB now look to stretch their unbeaten BL away run to five games (W3, D1). Free-scoring Borussia Dortmund side have scored 2+ match goals in their last four BL trips, restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match three times in the process. Still, Die Schwarzgelbenwon just half (5) of their ten BL trips since the turn of the year (W5, D3, L2), three of which were to nil though.
