Ulsan Hyundai vs FC Tokyo 11/02/20

11 February 2020

FC Tokyo will try to post their first victory against Ulsan Hyundai (D1, L1) when the teams lock horns at the Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium in the opening game of the AFC Champions League Group F at midweek.

It will be Ulsan’s first competitive game in 2020, and they will be eager to bounce back after a dismal end to the previous calendar year (D1, L1). Free-scoring hosts have found the back of the net in 12 consecutive fixtures in all competitions, scoring over 1.5 goals in seven, but in none of the last three. Also, the Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium has been something of a fortress over the past seven months, as the Iron Maces lost just once in their previous 11 home outings (W7, D3). Notably, eight of those 11 matches have seen both teams on the scoresheet, with Ulsan finding the opening goal in all but three of those games.

As for the visitors, they’ve won just once in their last four competitive fixtures (D2, L1), with three of those matches featuring under 2.5 goals. None of Tokyo’s past five away fixtures has ended in a draw (W3, L2), with three of the last seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet and fail to score in both halves. In turn, six of Tokyo’s last eight road trips have seen one of the sides draw a blank, with five featuring less than three goals (62.5%). The one consolation for the traveling fans is that Kenta Hasegawa’s men have increased their scoring ration away from home. Indeed, they’ve found the net in four of their last five road trips after failing to score in three consecutive away fixtures prior.
