Turkey vs Andorra 08/09/19

8 September 2019

Turkey welcome Andorra to the Vodafone Park for their UEFA European Championship qualifying (ECQ) clash, looking to increase their chances of reaching the final tournament.

Turkey’s purple patch in 2019 (W5) has been brought to a halt last time out when they lost 2-1 to Iceland on the road. Before losing to Iceland, the hosts have won all three of their opening ECQ matches, beating their rivals to nil while scoring two more goals in each. Also, the Crescent-Stars have pulled off four triumphs in their last five home games (W4, D1), scoring 2+ match goals in all of those wins while conceding a total of one in the process. Backed by a solid run of form, Şenol Güneş’s men will look to post their third consecutive victory over Andorra, with both of the previous ones seeing them win by a multiple-goal margin.

On the other hand, nailed to the bottom of Group H, the visitors have lost all of their opening four ECQ games without scoring a single goal. Having lost each of their last 54 ECQ matches, the Tricolours have rarely shown any positive signs since a stunning 1-0 home win over Hungary in 2017. They have since gone to lose ten competitive games to nil and pull off four draws against their peers in the UEFA Nations League. Furthermore, Andorra finished their previous ECQ campaign with all five defeats away from home and a disastrous -20 goal difference (S0, C20). Not to mention that they have netted just 11 goals in their 54 ECQ games while conceding 159 in the process.
