Tranmere Rovers vs Liverpool 12/07/19

12 July 2019

Liverpool start their summer preparations with midweek’s friendly match against the lower-league side Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

The hosts have started their summer campaign off on the wrong foot, having suffered a 2-1 loss to the Scottish side Livingston. After finishing sixth in the League Two last season, the Whites have secured promotion to the League One by beating Newport after extra time in the playoffs final. Probably because of the importance of the matches, all three of Tranmere’s previous competitive games have featured under 2.5 goals with just one seeing both teams score. The Super White Army’s main problem is their poor performance in the final third that has seen them score one goal or less in ten of their last 11 outings.

Meanwhile, the reigning Champions League holders will play their first match since beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the Champions League final back in June. The Reds are on a four-game winning run, during which they’ve scored 11 goals and kept three clean sheets. Liverpool’s impressive defending has seen them prevent their rivals from scoring in eight of their last ten games. In the same period, Jurgen Klopp’s men have netted 2+ match goals on nine occasions, while failing to find the net only in a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona. The Merseysiders now go after their fourth consecutive win over Tranmere in as many years, with two of their last three wins in H2H meetings with the Rovers seeing Liverpool win to nil.
