Totttenham Hotspur vs OGC Nice

Tottenham Hotspur’s ultimate mid-season exhibition match ahead of their Premier League return pits them against Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham headed into the World Cup break on the back of a stunning come-from-behind 4-3 home league victory over Leeds United. Despite lacking numerous first-team stars due to the Qatar showpiece, Antonio Conte’s side dismantled Scottish Premiership side Motherwell 4-0 in their only mid-season friendly, netting three unanswered first-half goals in the process. However, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has not been Spurs’ safe haven of late by any stretch of the imagination, with the north London heavyweights only winning once in their last four home outings (D1, L2). They’ve at least been fun to watch, as three of those four matches have seen over 2.5 total goals and both teams on the scoresheet.

In the meantime, stuck in mid-table Ligue 1 lethargy, Nice entered the World Cup break amid a decent five-game unbeaten league form (W2, D3). Yet Lucien Favre’s men have massively underperformed during the six-week hiatus from major international competitions, losing two consecutive off-season friendlies via an aggregate score of 5-1 following a 4-1 demolition of Standard Liege in their opening exhibition contest. But tough to beat on the road, ‘Les Aiglons’ haven’t lost any of their last five matches on hostile turf (W2, D3) despite failing to keep a clean sheet on four occasions in that span. On top of that, scoring has been a problem for Nice on the road of late, as they’ve netted under 1.5 goals in six of their last eight travels.
