Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 01/03/20

1 March 2020

Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take on Tottenham Hotspur, looking to extend a two-game unbeaten run in the Premier League (PL) away H2Hs (W1, D1) and possibly leapfrog their hosts in the standings.

The last weekend’s 2-1 away loss to Chelsea brought Tottenham’s four-game undefeated league run to a halt (W3, D1), as they now lag four points behind fourth-placed Blues. With a pure ‘Jose Mourinho grit’ running through their veins, all nine of their previous PL results have been hard-fought (W4, D2, L3). Indeed, each of those fixtures has ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals, with 55.56% of them seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Additionally, Spurs have won all but two of their last nine PL home games against the sides outside from the top-four (D2), scoring two goals or more in each. Yet, particularly vulnerable in the first half of play, the hosts have allowed 67% (eight) of the 12 PL home goals against before the break.

As for the visitors, they go into this encounter on the back of a 3-2 away loss to Espanyol in the UEFA Europa League that still saw them progress to the round of 16. Unbeaten in three consecutive league matches (W1, D2), Wolves have cut down the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to just five points, with each of those three games seeing them keep a blank sheet. Known for their combative approach, the Wanderers have seen 12 of their 13 PL away fixtures end separating the sides by under 1.5 goals. But, their frustratingly slow road starts could trouble the traveling fans – Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have shipped the opening goal in 69.23% (nine) of their league away matches so far this season. Yet, Wolves lost just three of those nine games, pulling off three comebacks in the other six (D3).
