Tottenham Hotspur vs Olympiacos 27/11/19

27 November 2019

Jose Mourinho will make his UEFA Champions League (CL) debut as Tottenham Hotspur manager when Olympiacos arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this week.

The hosts have regrouped from a humiliating 7-2 home defeat to Bayern Munich, winning both of their subsequent continental games by a margin of at least four goals. Moreover, they have not only kept a blank sheet in both of those triumphs, but they also scored at least two second-half goals on both occasions. Interestingly, just one of Spurs’ last six CL home matches has seen both teams score, with three of those fixtures ending with the identical 1-0 scoreline (W2, L1). Also, none of Tottenham’s last 13 CL home games has ended in a draw (W9, L4). The five-game unbeaten home streak against the Greek visitors can also hand a massive boost to the Premier League heavyweights ahead of the kick-off (W3, D2), as they need three points to secure a place in the knockout stage.

Meanwhile, the visitors have a little to hope for ahead of this trip, as they’ve suffered three consecutive Group B defeats following a 2-2 home draw with Tottenham in the reverse fixture. Although only one of those failures saw Olympiacos draw a blank, all three have seen them concede over 1.5 match goals. Furthermore, the Greek giants have lost six consecutive CL away games ahead of this journey and have also sustained 12 defeats in 14 of their previous trips to England (W1, D1, L12). For Olympiacos, goals have been at a premium away from home recently, as they’ve scored just one goal in their last three road matches in all competitions.
