Tottenham Hotspur vs Norwich City 05/03/20

5 March 2020

Out-of-form Tottenham Hotspur welcome Norwich City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the FA Cup round of 16.

The hosts have suffered a dip in form after the winter break, going from three consecutive victories to three straight defeats in all competitions. Pretty much in the ‘Jose Mourinho fashion,’ five of those results (win/loss) during that six-game sequence yielded a single-goal margin, with four seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams score. A match against Norwich comes as a perfect opportunity for Spurs to return to winning ways, as they’ve won all three of their previous home H2Hs, shutting the visitors out in two of those clashes. Notably, none of Tottenham’s last 12 competitive home matches has ended in a draw (W8, L4), with 66.67% of them producing three goals or more. Free-scoring Spurs gave their contribution to those ‘high-scoring affairs,’ netting over 1.5 goals in nine of those 12 fixtures.

As for the visitors, they go into this encounter on the back of a 1-0 home triumph over Leicester City that has seen them bring a three-game winless run to a halt (D1, L2). But, for Norwich, goals have been at a premium lately. Indeed, they’ve drawn a blank in half (four) of their last eight competitive fixtures, scoring over 1.5 goals only once in the other four. It gets worse for the Canaries, as they’ve failed to find the back of the net in three of their five previous road trips, with all five goals they’ve scored across those games coming in the second half. Norwich’s away action usually sparks into life after the break, with 65% of their last road goals (scored/conceded) coming in the second half (13/20).
