Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United

Saturday’s Premier League action gets underway at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a handsomely-looking encounter between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

Under-pressure manager Ange Postecoglou has started to feel the heat after relegation-battling Wolverhampton held his side to a stomach-wrenching 2-2 draw at the tail-end of the previous calendar year. As such, Spurs headed into 2025 in the bottom half of the Premier League table, albeit within striking distance of the European spots. However, Tottenham’s noticeable form decline in North London has been a massive concern, with the Lilywhites only winning once in their last seven home games (D3, L3) after registering seven victories in their first eight of the 2024/25 season. Newcastle’s upcoming visit cannot guarantee a much-needed return to winning ways, considering Spurs’ indifferent five-game home record against the Magpies (W2, D1, L2).

On the other hand, Newcastle United’s incredible uptick in form continued earlier this week as they humbled out-of-sorts Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford to make it four Premier League wins in a row. Each win in that sequence came by 2+ goals ‘to nil,’ testifying to Newcastle’s overall improvement after only winning five of their first 15 league games this season (D5, L5). Now only three points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea, Eddie Howe’s men leave Tyneside confident of strengthening their see-saw away top-flight record (W4, D3, L3). The Magpies have fared outstandingly in their away league matches as favorites this term, suffering just two defeats from eight such fixtures (W4, D2). Furthermore, they’ve emerged victorious from their last two EPL meetings with Spurs.
