Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United 20/06/20

20 June 2020

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United go head-to-head in a massive Premier League (PL) showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that could prove decisive to both sides’ hopes of securing the Champions League qualification for the next season.

With just four points separating the teams ahead of the kick-off, the hosts are desperate to seal all three points against a side they’ve lost to only once in their last seven top-flight home H2Hs (W3, D3). Spurs are keen to turn their fortunes around in the post-pandemic period after failing to secure a win in three consecutive league matches before the coronavirus pandemic halted the season in England (D1, L2). Still, they’ve been an exciting team to watch, with three of Tottenham’s last four PL fixtures seeing over 2.5 goals and both sides on the scoresheet. Jose Mourinho’s men have not played out a draw in eight successive PL home matches (W5, L3), scoring two or more goals on six of those occasions.

Meanwhile, the visitors were enjoying a purple patch before the pandemic curtailed their momentum, racking up an impressive 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions (W8, D3). Notably, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side kept a clean sheet in nine of those 11 matches and restricted their rivals to precisely one apiece in the other two. But, the Red Devils have struggled for consistency away from home, winning just two of their last six PL road fixtures (D1, L3). Interestingly, each of their five results (win/loss) during that six-game sequence yielded the identical 2-0 scoreline. United’s hopes of picking up three points here will depend on whether or not they can open the scoring. Indeed, Manchester United lost six of eight PL away matches in which they’ve conceded the opening goal (D2).
