Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City 19/07/20

19 July 2020

Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City go head-to-head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a high-stake Premier League affair this weekend. While the visitors chase a win to remain in contention for a top-four finish, the hosts need a victory to preserve their hopes of achieving the Europa League qualification.

Tottenham take the field after racking up a four-game unbeaten run in the Premier League (W3, D1), looking to stretch an undefeated run in the top-flight home H2Hs to four matches (W2, D1). Interestingly, two of those H2H successes have seen Spurs concede at least one goal, which has been true in both of their previous league wins. Indeed, even if they ship the opening goal here, as they did in seven of 18 Premier League home fixtures this term, Jose Mourinho’s men should not be written off – Tottenham returned ten points from such games (W3, D1, L3). But, a potential worry for the London outfit is that they’ve lost three of five of their previous Premier League home clashes against the current top-six sides (W1, D1).

Leicester’s dip in form since the resumption of football in June has seen them win just two of seven Premier League outings post restart (D3, L2), as they enter the round level on points with fifth-placed Manchester United. Additionally, the Foxes have failed to pick up a win in their last seven league trips (D3, L4), netting under 1.5 goals in each of those fixtures. Leicester’s hopes of securing three points here will heavily depend on whether or not they can open the scoring – Brendan Rodgers’ side lost four of six Premier League away matches in which they’ve conceded the opener (D2). Frustratingly for Leicester, they won just two from possible 15 points in their last five top-flight trips to the sides currently sitting in the upper half of the table (D2, L3).
