Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton 13/09/20
13 September 2020
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the venue as Tottenham Hotspur and Everton lock horns in their opening Premier League fixture.
Spurs will be looking to build on a strong end of the 2019/20 season that saw them rack up a six-game unbeaten Premier League run (W4, D2). Each win saw Tottenham restrict their rival on the day to a maximum of one goal, which has been the case in three of their previous four top-flight triumphs against Everton. Given they returned 12 (75%) of their 16 league wins on home turf last season, Jose Mourinho’s men are confident of starting things off on the right foot now. They can also rely upon the fact they have avoided defeat in all 11 of their previous Premier League H2Hs held in London, winning seven of them (D4). Notably, 57.14% of those triumphs were accompanied by a clean sheet (4/7).
Meanwhile, Everton could only manage a disappointing 12th-place finish last season. The visitors have a dismal away form to blame for that. Indeed, they lost 11 of 19 Premier League trips back in 2019/20 (W5, D3), lamenting a disastrous -15 goal difference from those 19 games (GF:20, GA:35). Carlo Ancelotti will be desperate to see his team improve their first-half performances. That’s because the Toffees found themselves in front at half-time just four times away from home last season (HT: W4, D10, L5). Additionally, Everton developed a habit of falling behind without recovering, losing all five of their Premier League away matches in which they were trailing at half-time.
