Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace 04/04/19

4 April 2019

Out-of-form Tottenham Hotspur team welcome an unpredictable Crystal Palace side obliged to pick up all three points in what will be their first game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A poor haul of one point in their last five Premier League outings has seen Tottenham’s chances of reaching the Champions League group stage compromised by the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal. The hosts come into this meeting off the back of an unlucky 2-1 road loss to Liverpool. Interestingly, three of Spurs’ previous four PL defeats have ended with the similar 2-1 scoreline, with two of those failures coming against teams from the bottom half of the table. However, Maurizio Pochettino’s players are unbeaten in their previous four PL home games (W3, D1) having restricted their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match in each. Still, Tottenham’s difficulties in the final third have seen them score one goal or less in four of their last six PL home clashes, which appears to be their main problem at the minute.

On the other hand, three wins in their previous five PL fixtures (W3, L2) have rocketed the visitors eight points above the relegation territory, but with seven games left to play, they have to remain focused to preserve the top-flight status. Although it may seem odd, the Eagles have secured 55.56% of their overall PL points away from home, with six of their ten PL wins arriving on the road. The Glaziers have endured mixed fortunes facing PL’s top-six teams away from home (W1, D1, L2), with both of those successes coming against Manchester-based outfits. Moreover, Roy Hodgson’s men have bagged 2+ match goals on six of their previous seven PL road trips, clinching four wins in the process (W4, D1, L2).
