Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley 07/12/19
7 December 2019
Tottenham Hotspur will look to return to winning ways in the Premier League (PL) when they take on Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.
After suffering his first defeat as the Spurs manager, Jose Mourinho will be desperate to see his side bounce back quickly, as they still hope to reduce a nine-point gap on fourth-placed Chelsea. A 2-1 away loss to Manchester United at the midweek now means that Tottenham conceded precisely two goals per match in all five of their competitive outings with Mourinho in charge. Interestingly, both of their previous PL triumphs have come via the identical 3-2 scoreline and have witnessed Spurs concede all four of those goals beyond the 72nd minute. The North Londoners must be lining up a win here, given their impressive home H2H record against Burnley (W6, D1). Although just two of those clashes saw Tottenham keep a blank sheet, five have seen them score at least two goals.
Meanwhile, a dismal 4-1 home loss to Manchester City means that visitors have now lost five of their last seven top-flight matches (W2, L5). Curiously, while both of their wins in that period came via the same 3-0 scoreline, all of their defeats in that same span saw them concede at least two goals. Far more comfortable at home, the Clarets have picked up only one triumph in seven PL road trips so far (W1, D3, L3), with five of those games seeing both teams score. Very slow starters when away from home, Sean Dyche’s men have conceded the opening goal in four of those trips, returning just two points from those fixtures. Frustratingly for the traveling fans, Burnley have managed only one draw in eight matches against the sides sitting in the upper half of the table ahead of this round (D1, L7).
