Tampines Rovers vs Shan United 10/03/20

10 March 2020

Tampines Rovers welcome Shan United to the Bishan Stadium in the AFC Cup, looking to maintain an unbeaten start to their Group H campaign.

After securing a 2-1 win over PSM Makassar in the group stage curtain-raiser, the hosts were held to a goalless away draw to Kaya, with whom they share the top spot ahead of the kick-off. Before losing 2-0 to DPMM in the national championship a few days ago, Tampines had gone unbeaten in 11 consecutive games (90 minutes only) in all competitions (W8, D3), with five of their eight wins during that run yielding a clean sheet. At home, the ‘Stags’ have won six of their last eight competitive matches (D2), scoring over 1.5 goals in all but two. Yet, Tampines’ recent fixtures have seen a little action, with none of their four previous games seeing both teams on the scoresheet and three featuring under 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors have lost both of their opening group matches, each via a two-goal margin, conceding a goal on or beyond the 85-minute mark on both of those occasions. Indeed, United are not having the best of times, having suffered five defeats in their last 11 competitive fixtures (W4, D2), with seven of those games ending separating the sides by under 1.5 goals. One of their main issues lately has been a fragile backline that failed to keep a clean sheet ten times during the abovementioned 11-game sequence, conceding over 1.5 goals five times in the process. But, the ‘White Angels’ have been a fairly entertaining team to watch away from home recently, with four of their last six road games seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams score (W3, D2, L1).
