Sydney FC vs Paris Saint-Germain 01/08/19
1 August 2019
Sydney FC and Paris Saint-Germain will face-off at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre for a friendly fixture that will see the reigning Ligue 1 holders trying to overcome a challenging period.
After a disastrous 4-0 defeat to Kawasaki Frontale at the beginning of their pre-season, the Sky Blues have secured comfortable back-to-back wins over the Australian lower-league sides. Both of those triumphs have seen Sydney score four or more goals and prevent their opponents from scoring. Interestingly, just two of Sydney’s last nine matches have seen both teams score, although five have witnessed three or more goals. If Steve Corica’s players lose here, it will probably be to nil, considering that all five of their previous defeats saw them fail to find the net.
The Parisians have struggled to impress during their pre-season so far, registering just one triumph in three friendlies this summer (W1, D1, L1). All of those matches have seen both teams score, with two of them ending with the same 1-1 scoreline, although PSG got edged out by Inter Milan after a penalty shootout in their last outing. PSG’s weak form has coincided with their struggling from the final stage of the 2018-19 campaign that has seen Thomas Tuchel’s men fail to pick up a win in four of the final six games of last season (W2, D1, L3). Four of those matches have seen PSG concede a goal, while three saw them allow two or more.
