Switzerland vs Croatia 08/10/20
08 October 2020
Switzerland and Croatia will face off against each other at the Kybunpark for a potentially high-scoring friendly fixture. Indeed, both of their previous H2Hs meetings have seen the adversaries score over 1.5 goals each.
Switzerland’s three-game winning streak was brought to a halt during last month’s international break, as they lost 2-1 to Ukraine and played out a 1-1 draw with Germany. Interestingly, the ‘Nati’ conceded the opening goal in the 14th minute of action on both of those occasions. It will be a daunting prospect for Switzerland to return to winning ways here, as they’ve failed to beat Croatia in each of their three H2H meetings overall (D2, L1). However, the hosts have avoided defeat in seven consecutive home outings ahead of the kick-off (W4, D3), keeping a clean sheet in four of the last five. A lack of firepower up front has been troubling Vladimir Petkovic’s men during that five-game sequence, though, as they’ve netted under 1.5 goals three times across that period.
Meanwhile, the 2018 World Cup runners-up endured an utterly disappointing September’s international break, losing both of their outings via at least a two-goal margin and conceding precisely four goals apiece. But, high scoring has been a theme for Croatia lately, as each of their last four matches has seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, with the ‘Blazers’ conceding the opening goal in three. Curiously, Zlatko Dalic’s men are winless in four road trips (D2, L2) despite finding the opening goal on three of those occasions. In fact, they have only picked up one win in nine away games since losing to France in the World Cup final back in 2018 (W1, D3, L6), conceding over 1.5 goals five times during the process.
