Suwon vs Gwangju 07/06/20

07 June 2020

The two out-of-sorts sides will face off against each other at the Suwon World Cup Stadium, as Suwon take on Gwangju in a potentially ‘low-scoring’ K League 1 affair. Indeed, six of their last seven top-flight H2Hs have featured under 2.5 goals, with Gwangju picking up just a single win across those clashes (D4, L2).

Accustomed to tight affairs, all four of Suwon’s opening league fixtures have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W1, D1, L2), with the winner across those three results (win/loss) continually arriving beyond the hour mark. Poor home form has seen the hosts secure just two wins in their last five competitive home outings (D1, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals on three of those occasions. Suwon’s league action usually burns into life after the break, with six of their seven K League 1 goals (scored/conceded) so far coming in the second half of play.

On the other hand, the visitors have yet to taste victory in the 2020/21 campaign (D1, L3) and are nailed to the bottom of the table. Arguably the weakest attacking side in the Korean top-tier, Gwangju have managed just a single goal in the opening four rounds of fixtures and are still chasing their first top-flight goal away from home. Curiously, none of their seven previous competitive away games has ended in a draw, last season included (W2, L5). Importantly, five of those seven results have yielded a narrow one-goal margin.
