SPAL vs Parma 05/10/19

5 October 2019

SPAL and Parma go head-to-head at the Stadio Paolo Mazza, with the visitors looking to seize the opportunity of posting three consecutive Serie A (SA) wins for the first time since March 2014.

With one win and five defeats, the hosts are rooted deep in the relegation territory and come into this fixture on a run of three consecutive failures. While four of their five SA losses witnessed them concede precisely one goal in the first half before allowing at least one more in the second, three have seen them draw a blank. Still, the Paolo Mazza has been a venue of entertainment recently, as six of SPAL’s last seven SA home matches have featured over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score. However, Gli Spallini have won just two games in that period, suffering four defeats in the process (W2, D1, L4). Probably the only thing that can encourage the home fans at this moment is that SPAL won both of their top-flight H2Hs with Parma, each by a single-goal margin.

The visitors have, meanwhile, gone from back-to-back league defeats to two straight triumphs, both of which have come by a narrow one-goal margin. A draw has been the only outcome lacking in Parma’s six SA fixtures this season (W3, L3) along with a late away drama. Although both of Parma’s SA trips (W1, L1) have featured goals in both halves, none of the six goals scored in those matches has come beyond the 75th minute. Notably, before beating Udinese 3-1 on September 1, the Crusaders have failed to pick up an away league win in nine successive SA trips (D4, L5). What’s more, all ten of Parma’s previous SA away defeats have seen them concede two or more goals, which certainly troubles Roberto D’Aversa.
