SPAL vs Juventus 13/04/19

13 April 2019

SPAL and Juventus go head-to-head at the Stadio Paolo Mazza with the visitors set to claim their eighth successive Serie A title should they win here.

A 2-1 road loss to Cagliari last time out has brought the hosts’ three-game Serie A winning run to an end, as they still fighting tooth and nail to preserve their top-flight status. Sitting four points clear of 18th-placed Empoli with seven SA fixtures left to go, Gli Spallini hope to hold Juventus as they did last season when the two played out a goalless draw at this venue. Surprisingly, three of SPAL’s four SA home wins have seen them beat SA’s top-seven teams (Atalanta, AS Roma, and Lazio). Notably though, five of SPAL’s previous eight SA home outings have produced under 2.5 goals, with Leonardo Semplici’s men keeping four clean sheets in the process. A potential worry for the home fans could be the Biancazzurri’s lack of composure in the final third that has seen them score 2+ match goals in just four of 15 SA home fixtures.

Meanwhile, the visitors are on the verge of defending the SA title, as they top the table with a 20-point lead over second-placed Napoli and can mathematically claim the title should they wrap up all three points here. Authors of one of the most dominant league campaigns in recent SA history boast an almost perfect home record (W13, D1, L1) having netted 2+ match goals in 12 of 15 SA away games. Furthermore, no team has shipped fewer goals away from home that the Bianconeri (10) this term, with Massimiliano Allegri’s players preserving eight clean slates on the road so far. But, goals have been in short supply in Juve’s recent road clashes, with five of their last six away meetings featuring under 2.5 goals.
