SPAL vs Internazionale 17/07/20

17 July 2020

Dead-last SPAL welcome Internazionale to the Stadio Paolo Mazza this midweek, seeking an elusive first Serie A home victory in 2020 (D1, L6).

The hosts have lost all but one of their six Serie A fixtures post restart (D1), including the last three, as they enter the round trailing 17th-placed Genoa by 11 points. All three of SPAL’s previous defeats have yielded a full-time margin of over 1.5 goals and seen them draw a blank. ‘Gli Spallini’ can hardly hope for a positive outcome here, as they’ve lost four of five top-flight H2Hs (D1), conceding precisely two goals in each of those defeats. Additionally, no team has scored fewer Serie A home goals than SPAL (13) this season, with Luigi Di Biagio’s side netting a miserable average of 0.86 goals per top-flight home match.

On the other hand, the visitors have won four of seven Serie A games since the resumption of football in June (D2, L1), bagging over 1.5 goals on six of those occasions. Also, the ‘Nerazzurri’ remain one of just two teams to smash a 30-goal barrier away from home this season, scoring an average of 2 goals per Serie A away fixture. A potential worry for Antonio Conte could be Inter’s inability to keep a clean sheet away from home. The Milanese giants have failed to shut out their opponent in six of seven league away encounters this calendar year, which has been true in both of their top-flight trips to SPAL.
