SPAL vs AC Milan 02/07/20

2 July 2020

Dead-last SPAL welcome in-form AC Milan to the Stadio Paolo Mazza, seeking their elusive first Serie A home win in 2020.

The hosts have been somewhat pushovers since the calendar flipped, suffering nine defeats in 11 Serie A fixtures since the turn of the year (W2), with seven of those matches seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. In turn, SPAL have failed to secure a win in their last nine league home outings (D2, L7), with five of those seven losses producing a full-time margin of a single goal. For SPAL, goals have been at a premium this season. Luigi Di Biagio’s men have netted under 1.5 goals in 11 of 13 Serie A home games so far, notching a league joint-low four second-half goals along the way.

Meanwhile, the visitors have secured back-to-back league triumphs in the post-pandemic period, both of which produced at least a two-goal margin. Also, the ‘Rossoneri’ have won three of their last five Serie A road trips (D1, L1), restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match on four of those occasions. Additionally, Stefano Pioli’s side boast a perfect competitive H2H record against SPAL (W6), scoring at least two goals five times across those clashes. Milan’s away action usually sparks into life after the break, with the majority (74.36%) of the Serie A road goals (scored/conceded) this season arriving in the second half of play (29/39).
