Southampton vs Manchester United 02/12/18

02 December 2018

Southampton will welcome Manchester United to the St. Mary’s Stadium, hoping for their first elusive Premier League home win after struggling to pick up all three points in all of their six home games so far.

After a nightmarish last season when they barely avoided relegation, Southampton again face a relegation battle, sitting in the danger zone with a record of one win, five draws, and seven losses. The Saints are going through a dreadful spell, considering they have lost five out of their previous nine Premier League games. Indeed, their form over the last ten meetings has seen just one victory. With ten goals bagged so far, only two sides scored fewer goals than Southampton, who failed to find the back of the net six times up to this point. In the meantime, Mark Hughes’s players have racked up four clean sheets, but with 24 goals conceded in 13 league matches, they have the fourth-worst defensive record in the English top flight.

Manchester United will look to post their fourth road triumph in the Premier League against a struggling Southampton side that has failed to clinch a win in their last nine league matches. The Red Devils have wrapped up four victories in their six encounters across all competitions, during which they have kept just two clean sheets. Unlike the previous few seasons, Man Utd have only two clean sheets in their opening 13 Premier League clashes, which sees West Ham and Fulham the only teams with a worse record in the English top flight. Jose Mourinho’s men have managed 1.54 goals per in the EPL so far while allowing 21 goals at an average of 1.62 goals conceded every game.
