South Korea vs Iran 11/06/19

11 June 2019

South Korea and Iran will face-off at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in an international friendly game as the hosts hope to post their fourth consecutive victory.

All three of South Korea’s previous triumphs have been settled by a narrow one-goal margin, with of them ending with the same 1-0 scoreline. A lack of creativity in the final third and stubborn defending have influenced a lack of entertainment in Taegeuk Warriors’ games over the past six months. Just one of the Koreans’ last nine matches has produced over 2.5 goals and saw both teams score, while six of the remaining eight featured under 1.5 goals. Paulo Bento can rely on the fact that his players have kept seven clean sheets in their previous ten outings, restricting their opponents to a maximum of one goal per match in another three meetings.

Meanwhile, the visitors come into this meeting off the back of a stunning 5-0 triumph over Syria, which was their first game since exiting the Asian Cup in the semi-finals back in January. Team Melli enjoyed a nice ride in 2019 so far, pulling off five wins in seven games (W5, D1, L1). All five of those victories have seen them score over 1.5 match goals and have been accompanied by a clean sheet. Interestingly, though, all seven of Iran’s games since the turn of the year have produced goals on one end, although four of them have featured over 2.5 goals.
