Singapore vs Uzbekistan 15/10/19

15 October 2019

Uzbekistan travel to the National Stadium to take on Singapore in a bid to break into the top-two in the 2020 FIFA World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) Group D.

A 3-0 demolition to Saudi Arabia on the road last time out has snapped Singapore’s two-game unbeaten streak in the ongoing qualifying campaign (W1, D1). Although it was the first WCQ match that saw them draw a blank, the Lions have confirmed they are struggling to fix a leaking defense that has now conceded at least one goal in six of their last seven outings. However, it’s been a while since Tatsuma Yoshida’s men last drew a blank at home (3-0 loss to Bahrein in November 2017). A free-scoring form when on home soil has seen Singapore score one goal at least in ten straight home outings, with the Lions netting 2+ match goals seven times in the process (W7, D2, L1).

The visitors have, meanwhile, managed to bounce back after a 2-0 away loss to Palestine, registering a convincing 5-0 home triumph over Jemen less than five days ago. Although they sit third in Group D – one point behind second-placed Singapore, the White Wolves do have one game in hand on their upcoming rivals. A lack of consistency has, however, seen Vadim Abramov’s men pick up six wins in 12 outings this calendar year (W6, D2, L4). As a matter of fact, they now have an opportunity to rack up a three-game unbeaten streak for the first time since November 2018. If Uzbekistan do manage to walk away from the National Stadium with all three points, they might as well beat Singapore to nil, as five of their six wins in 2019 saw them keep a clean sheet.
