Sheffield Untied vs Chelsea 12/07/20

12 July 2020

Sheffield United will try to bring a four-game winless run in the Premier League H2Hs with Chelsea to a halt (D1, L3) when the two sides met at Bramall Lane this weekend.

A slight upturn in form has seen Sheffield go from back-to-back Premier League defeats to three straight outings without a loss (W2, D1), with three of those results (win/loss) during that five-game sequence seeing the winner on the day score precisely three goals per match. However, Bramall Lane has hosted a number of tight affairs this season. Indeed, 13 of Sheffield’s 17 Premier League home fixtures this term have ended separating the sides by a full-time margin of one goal or less, with the majority (70.59%) of those clashes featuring under 2.5 total goals (12/17). In turn, stretching back to 1991, four of their five top-flight H2Hs held at this stadium have produced two goals or less.

In the meantime, the visitors have picked up five wins from their last six Premier League matches (L1), with each of those results seeing the winner on the day score over 1.5 goals. But, away from home in the Premier League, the Blues have won just twice in their seven previous trips (D3, L2), failing to keep a clean sheet in each and conceding over 1.5 goals in four. In fact, Chelsea’s inability to shut out their rivals on the road has seen them ship at least one goal in 94.12% (16) of 17 league away games this season, conceding more goals than any other side from the upper half of the table (30). Particularly vulnerable after the break, Frank Lampard’s men have allowed 63.33% of the Premier League away goals conceded in the second half of play (19/30).
