Sheffield United vs Manchester United 25/11/19

25 November 2019

Manchester United travel to Bramall Lane to tackle Sheffield United, looking to maintain their 100% record in the Premier League (PL) H2Hs since the turn of the new millennium (W2).

Undefeated in their last five PL outings (W2, D3), the hosts have only seen both teams score in five of their 12 PL matches this term. The Blades have won four and lost three so far this season, but as a reflection of the true Yorkshire grit running through their veins, five of those results have been determined by a narrow one-goal margin. Notably improved over the past few weeks, Christopher Wilder’s men have gone from three straight PL home defeats to two consecutive wins, both of which have seen them shut out the opponent. Curiously, after drawing a blank in the first half in four successive PL home games, all four goals they’ve scored across those above triumphs have come before the break.

Although they go into this meeting on the back of a 3-1 home win over Brighton, the visitors have lately failed to show the consistency required to move up the table (W2, D1, L2). Both of their defeats in that sequence have come away from home and saw them lose by the same 1-0 scoreline. On the other hand, both of their wins in that period have followed a similar scenario that includes United net two first-half goals, and both teams score precisely one in the second half. However, winning away from home has proved complicated for the Red Devils this term, as they’ve pulled off just one win in six top-flight road trips so far (W1, D2, L3). All three of those defeats have come in their last four PL away games (W1), and each has seen them draw a blank, with two seeing them concede in the final two minutes of the first half.
