Shanghai SIPG vs Jeonbuk Motors 19/06/19
19 June 2019
Shanghai SIPG and Jeonbuk Motors go head-to-head at the Shanghai Stadium for the first leg of their AFC Champions League last-16 tie.
Finished second in Group H, with a one-point lead over Kawasaki, Shanghai managed to qualify for the knockout stage thanks to a stunning 5-0 home win over Ulsan in the round of group stage fixtures. Also, seven of Shanghai’s eight points in Group H have come at home (W2, D1), with both of those triumphs being accompanied by a clean sheet. Furthermore, the hosts were on an impressive 14-game unbeaten run prior to a 2-0 home loss to Guangzhou Evergrande last time out (W10, D4). The free-scoring Red Eagles have netted 2+ match goals in nine straight home outings across all competitions before failing to find the net against Guangzhou a few days ago.
Meanwhile, the visitors finished top of Group G with a record of four wins, a draw, and a loss, and a +4 goal difference (S7, C3). Interestingly, all three of Jeonbuk’s away games at the competition have ended with the identical 1-0 scoreline (W2, L1), with two of those three goals coming in the second half. Unbeaten in their last six outings across all competitions (W5, D1), the Green Warriors travel here on a run of four straight triumphs in which they’ve scored ten goals and allowed just three. Also, José Morais can be encouraged by the fact that his players have kept six clean sheets on their last eight road trips across all competitions, conceding over 1.5 match goals only once in the process (W6, D1, L1).
