Sevilla vs Osasuna 01/03/20

1 March 2020

Sevilla entertain out-of-sorts Osasuna at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this weekend, seeking a victory that would keep them in contention for the top-four finish in La Liga (LL).

With just one point separating them from sixth-placed Getafe, the hosts need to pick up three points against the side they’ve beaten in four of their last five top-flight H2Hs, home and away (D1). However, the Andalusian giants are not enjoying the best of times, having secured just one win in their four previous LL outings (D2, L1). In turn, Julen Lopetegui’s men have won only once in their last four league home matches (D3), with all three of those draws seeing both teams score. If they score the opening goal, as they’ve done in seven of 12 LL home fixtures (58.33%), Los Nervionenses are likely to score some points here – Sevilla have won four of seven league home games in which they’ve opened the scoring (D3).

Meanwhile, the visitors have suffered back-to-back league defeats, both of which saw Osasuna concede over 1.5 first-half goals and subsequently end up losing by a three-goal margin. Agonizingly slow away starters, Los Rojillos have shipped the opening goal in nine of 12 LL road trips so far this season (75%), although they lost just four such fixtures (W1, D4). Also, for Osasuna, goals have been in short supply when away from home. Only 38.71% (12) of their 31 LL goals scored came on the road, and that’s mainly due to their inability to find the net in the first half. Indeed, Jagoba Arrasate’s players have scored just one first-half away goals this campaign – less than any other side in Spain’s top-tier.
