Sevilla vs Leganes 04/05/19

4 May 2019

Sevilla welcome Leganes to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán for the opening game of this weekend’s La Liga action obliged to pick up all three points, as they still hope to secure a top-four finish.

Sitting fifth in the table with the same point tally as fourth-placed Getafe, the hosts can’t afford a mistake as there are just three league fixtures left to go. However, the Andalusians are going through a turbulent period having clinched four wins in their last seven La Liga outings (W4, L3). Interestingly, all three of Sevilla’s losses in that period have seen them failed to find the net, while they’ve outplayed their rivals without conceding a goal three times in the same sequence. Los Hispalenses enjoyed a prolific home from in April though having pulled off all three LL home wins last month, scoring ten goals while conceding two in the process. Furthermore, Los Nervionenses have won two of three home H2H meetings with Leganes since the visitors joined the top-flight (W2, D1), netting precisely two goals in both of those triumphs.

Meanwhile, the visitors seem to be one step away from mathematically securing La Liga status for another season, as they currently reside seven points clear of 18th-placed Real Valladolid. Leganes’ drop-off in form has, however, seen them gone from back-to-back LL wins to five straight league games without a victory (D3, L2). Stubborn at the back, but unprolific in the final third, Los Pepineros have failed to provide joy to their fans over the past two months, as ten of their last 11 LL clashes have featured under 2.5 goals. What’s more, Mauricio Pellegrino’s men have failed to score 2+ match goals in all six of their previous LL outings, allowing over 1.5 goals per match only once though.
