Sevilla vs Deportivo Alaves 05/04/19

5 April 2019

Thursday’s La Liga action begins with a clash between Sevilla and Deportivo Alaves at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán as the two sides battle it out for the Champions League promotion.

Sitting three points adrift of fourth-placed Getafe, the hosts are obliged to pick up all three points especially after they suffered a 1-0 home loss to Valencia last weekend. Sevilla’s tumultuous period seems to be going on, as they’ve lost four of their previous six LL fixtures (W2, L4), with two of those failures arriving at home. However, the Andalusians are glad to host Alaves at this moment considering their impressive home record of five successive wins over the Basque Country outfit in the 21st century. Although Joaquín Caparrós can’t be happy about the fact his players have failed to find the net against Valencia, he can certainly be pleased to know Sevilla have bagged 2+ match goals in eight straight home outings across all competitions beforehand.

Meanwhile, the visitors are having a sensational campaign as they currently reside fifth with a two-point deficit to the Champions League promotion territory. But, just like Sevilla, the Babazorros come into this meeting off the back of a disappointing display that has seen them suffered a disastrous 4-0 home loss to Atletico Madrid last time out. Although Abelardo’s men secured six of their 12 LL wins on the road, as much as seven of their nine LL losses have come away from home. But, Alaves have entered this round unbeaten on all three of their previous LL road trips (W2, D1) although both of those victories saw them beating teams from the bottom half of the table. El Glorioso’s struggling against LL’s top-six teams on the road has seen them lose all four of their H2Hs with the Spanish elite sides, conceding 3+ match goals in each while failing to score a single goal in the process.
