Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao 19/05/19

19 May 2019

Sevilla welcome Athletic Bilbao to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán for the top-of-the-table clash as two sides battle it out for European promotion.

The hosts sit two points adrift of fourth-placed Valencia ahead of the final matchday of the season and still hope to break into top four after mathematically securing the Europa League qualification. Still, Los Hispalenses have overseen little success in their last five LL outings (W1, D1, L3), failing to find the net across all three of those losses. A disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Leganes has brought Sevilla’s three-game LL home winning streak to an end, but it was their third consecutive league home game that has featured over 2.5 goals. An encouraging fact for Los Nervionenses is that they’ve won five of their previous six home H2H meetings with Bilbao (W5, D1), with four of those triumphs being accompanied by a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, the visitors are on the verge of securing the seventh place that would fire them to the Europa League playoffs, as they sit three points clear of the Basque rivals Real Sociedad. Like Sevilla, Los Leones are not having the best of times having picked up two wins in their five LL fixtures (W2, D1, L2). Additionally, Rojiblancos have suffered three defeats on their previous four LL road trips (W1, L3), struggling to score in all three of those failures. Far more comfortable at home, Gaizka Garitano’s players have collected just 33.96% of their total LL points away from home (18 of 53), with just two of their 13 league wins coming on the road (30.77%). Also, Athletic have netted only 15 goals on the road this campaign, struggling to find the net in seven of 18 LL away meetings this campaign.
