Schalke 04 vs Borussia Monchengladbach 03/02/19
03 February 2019
Saturday’s Bundesliga action concludes with a massive clash at the Veltins Arena where an unpredictable Schalke 04 team welcome Borussia Monchengladbach.
The hosts are unbeaten in their last three Bundesliga meetings (W2, D1) but still have a long way to go before closing the gap on the European promotion zone. Lack of consistency followed by continuous ups and downs has highlighted Schalke’s season so far, which is the principal reason they currently sit 12th in the table. Remaining as one of two sides that are yet to play out a draw at home this campaign (W4, D5), the Miners seek first positive outcome against Bundesliga top-four at home after losing to both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. All of Schalke’s last five Bundesliga home clashes have produced over 2.5 goals, with three of them ending with the identical 2-1 scoreline (one in Schalke’s favor though).
On the other hand, the visitors have lost the pace with Borussia Dortmund but are still on the verge of securing the Champions League promotion. However, Dieter Hecking’s men have failed to wrap up all three points in three of their last four Bundesliga road meetings (W1, D1, L2) as they still struggle to perform at the same level at home and on the road. The Borussians’ indifferent road form (W3, D3, L4) could play a major role in this meeting, especially considering they’ve nearly left the Veltins Arena empty-handed in their last three visits (D1, L2). Not only the Foals have been struggling for points away from home, but they’ve been also dealing with huge problems in the final third. Domenico Tedesco’s players have scored under 1.5 goals per match on their last four Bundesliga road trips, failing to hit the net twice in the process.
